Montaigne & Monte-Carlo

Montaigne & Monte-Carlo

Now more than ever, a major fusion of past, present and future is appearing in many brands and sports.

The Grand Prix of Monaco ran its race for the 76th year.

Formula One runs through the epic winding roads of the Principality of Monaco. With stunning views on the water, a Royal and star-studded crowd, attending this race was a great pleasure for me.

Also, stepping into the workspace of Christian Dior on Avenue Montaigne in Paris was a dream come true for me. Hop in, I’m taking you on a ride through Monte-Carlo and Avenue Montaigne.

Montaigne Avenue

Entering the building, we find a well-curated display of Haute Couture gowns from the most recent collection designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri, the women’s artistic director.

The sumptuous gowns rest on a very famous staircase of the Maison Christian Dior, where fashion shows were once held, and guests were seated on those very stairs for an intimate viewing of Christian’s Collections.

The Atelier on Avenue Montaigne is one of the very rare Haute Couture workshops alive today, where clothing is still made from start to finish.

Kim Jones, Dior’s creative director counterpart and men’s creative director, took on the role while knowing what the Maison is most famous for: The Trapeze Jacket. Take a look at his latest collection by clicking here.

The New Look” was created by Dior to express a woman’s individuality and strength. Created in 1947, it was a truly revolutionary post-war look.

Naturally, this was translated into the designs of today’s collections, which take the classic silhouette and transform it into a futuristic outlook.

In today’s menswear collection, we find the Ready-to-Wear, honoring savoir-faire methods such as hand embroidery and the use of delicate fabric.

Grand Prix de Monaco

I went to Monte-Carlo, one of my favorite places, to watch the 76th Grand Prix. As always, the Formula One race drew in a big crowd of enthusiasts, waiting to get their adrenaline fix in a beautiful setting.

The race didn’t disappoint, either. I was rooting for Daniel Ricciardo, Redbull racing. He won the race in first place.

Many changes will hit the upcoming 2019-2020 season. From drivers switching teams (Daniel is moving to Renault, Kimi to Sauber); to Canadian pilot Lance Stroll’s team switch to Force India… those are some of the many exciting shake-ups to expect.

But much like New Designers taking on Dior’s legacy, each Formula 1 pilot switching teams must remember his old team’s legacies, and bring his touch of savoir-faire to the new team he is joining.

A shake-up in team structure is a good thing. I don’t know about you, but I am excited to see how the changes will result with a mix of fresh blood and with some pioneers taking the wheel for the next season.

IN CONCLUSION…

For many years, the Avenue Montaigne Atelier and the Monte-Carlo Circuit were made famous because numerous pioneers in their respective industries paved the way for today’s generation. And gratefully, these venerable and beautiful settings still serve their purpose today, honor their pioneers’ passion, and keep inspiring our own passion.

Wishing you all safe and lovely Holidays with your loved ones, I say ciao until a promising 2019 New Year.
